How Do We Compare to Wind Turbines?

Compared with Wind Turbines
Wind turbines convert momentum in local air currents into electricity to provide energy solutions with zero pollution or greenhouse gas emissions. However they have the disadvantage that they do not provide power when there is little or no available wind energy, and they require a reference utility grid to produce power. Capstone MicroTurbine energy solutions can provide power anytime that fuel is available, and can operate independent of a utility grid. While emissions are not zero, they are extremely clean and reduce greenhouse gas emissions compared with traditional energy solutions. Wind turbines are also relatively expensive, and require higher government incentive levels to stimulate customer investment.

For a 500kW wind turbine installation assuming 1,500 hours per year operation at effectively full power output, the reduced emissions compared with the average US power plant is the equivalent of removing 90 typical passenger vehicles from the road. Compare this with the 350 vehicles that a Capstone microturbine solution could remove, using the same emissions comparison assumptions.
