How the Calculator Works

The calculated cost to generate is based on Capstone published performance data for a specific operation condition of sea level and 80^oF ambient. Scheduled maintenance costs are included. For the combined heat and power application, the value of the heat recovered is accounted for by subtracting the cost of fuel that would have been consumed in an 80% efficient hot water heater or boiler to achieve the same thermal output.

The payback calculations assume only the Capstone and fuel delivery hardware cost, but do not include engineering or installation costs. No incentives, rebates, or other production credits are included, however a depreciation tax benefit for this capital investment is included. The system is assumed to operate 8,550 hours per year.
